Use direct dial phone numbers for employees who wish to have customers reach them directly, without having to call the company’s main phone number. When someone calls this number they will be connected immediately, or get voicemail if the employee is unavailable.
You could also use direct dial numbers for departmental purposes. If John is the sole sales representative, for example, you could have the “Sales” direct dial number point directly to his extension. With this approach, your customers would be calling a dedicated sales line, which helps to project a larger business image – even if there is only one person who will answer sales calls.
